Outdoors as an Extension
For this home, we knew from the start that the greatest opportunity was outside. A large portion
of the budget was dedicated to transforming the exterior spaces and landscaping so they could
fully support the indoor-outdoor lifestyle the home was designed for.
The first major change was replacing the surface around the pool with turf. What had been there
before was uncomfortable under bare feet and broke the flow of the backyard. This upgrade
made the outdoor space feel as inviting and usable as any interior room.
The home's layout was intended to connect inside and out, but the original landscaping had
blocked that potential. Off the living room's sliding doors, there had been nothing but dense
bushes. Stepping outside meant stepping straight into overgrowth, which limited both function
and enjoyment. We reimagined this area completely, building a platform that created a natural
extension of the living space. Now, opening the doors invites you into a space that flows
seamlessly, encouraging movement between the interior and exterior.
